Trophy Haul for Waipara Hills' Wines
3 October 2005

Waipara Hills Wine Estate has scooped four trophies and four gold medals at this year's Liquorland International Top 100 wine competition awards, including the champion winery award.

The company's 2004 Marlborough Gewurztraminer won champion Gewurztraminer and a gold medal, while its 2005 Marlborough Pinot Gris won champion Pinot Gris and a gold medal.

Its 2003 and 2004 Simmonds’ Vineyard Marlborough Pinot Noir also both won gold medals with the 2003 vintage taking the champion Pinot Noir trophy.

The success comes two weeks after Waipara Hills won four gold medals at the New Zealand International Wine Show. Its two Simmonds' Vineyard Pinot Noir vintages have won seven gold medals this year in New Zealand and overseas competitions.

Waipara Hills' sales and export manager, Ian Blowers, said in nine weeks its wines had won a total of nine gold medals and four trophies at three international wine shows, a "massive tribute to our grape growers and winemakers."
